Communications Coordinator

Job Title: Communications Coordinator
Organization: Wellspring Alberta
Location: Calgary or Edmonton
Job Type: Hybrid Full-time

Wellspring Alberta is a charitable organization that supports, informs, and empowers those diagnosed with cancer by helping them address the fear, isolation, disruption and practical problems cancer can bring to their lives.  An affiliate of the Wellspring Cancer Support Foundation, Wellspring Alberta provides a comprehensive range of programs, support, resources, and programs so anyone living with cancer and the people who care about them can improve the quality of their lives. All programs and services are informed by evidence and offered free of charge and without referral in three centres and online. Our vision is that no one has to face cancer alone.

Wellspring Alberta’s work is made possible through the generous donations of individuals, corporations, foundations and grassroots fundraisers, and with the efforts of committed volunteers, dedicated staff and skilled contracted program leaders.

Purpose of position:

Are you a skilled communicator who thrives in a fast-paced environment where no two days are the same? Wellspring Alberta is seeking a Communications Coordinator to help share our mission and engage Albertans affected by cancer.

This role is ideal for someone who loves variety, juggling multiple projects, thrives on deadlines, and enjoys bringing ideas to life through words, visuals, and digital content. You’ll be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and consistency of external communications, maintaining our website, running social media accounts, and designing marketing materials.

While creativity and strategy play a role, the primary focus is on execution—making sure our communications channels are consistently updated, engaging, and aligned with our organizational goals. If you’re an eager learner looking for mentorship and professional growth in a supportive team, this is an opportunity to develop your skills while making a meaningful impact.

Occasional evening and weekend work, and travel across Alberta, are required for this role.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, create, and schedule daily content across all social media platforms. Monitor engagement, respond to inquiries, and adjust strategies based on analytics.
  • Execute digital media campaigns to effectively reach target audiences and achieve campaign objectives.
  • Track and analyze social media performance, compiling monthly and quarterly reports to inform strategy adjustments.
  • Assist with marketing for fundraising and community events, including email campaigns, social media, and on-the-ground support.
  • Design reports, brochures, posters, and promotional materials, ensuring visual consistency and brand alignment.
  • Keep the website up to date by adding new content, optimizing SEO, checking for broken links, and making other updates as needed.
  • Capture and edit visual content for social media and marketing materials.
  • Write and edit compelling content for newsletters, blogs, website pages, brochures, and press releases, ensuring messaging is clear, engaging, and aligned with Wellspring’s brand.
  • Review and approve communications content before it goes external to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Other duties as assigned to support the overall communications strategy.

Required knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • 3+ years of experience in a communications, marketing, or related role.
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects, adapt to shifting priorities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and interviewing skills. Knowledge of Canadian Press Style is an asset.
  • Strong understanding of digital and social media platforms, trends, and best practices.
  • Basic knowledge of website management, including WordPress and SEO best practices.
  • Experience with content creation tools, including Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, and video editing software.
  • Familiarity with marketing and analytics tools, such as Google Analytics, Google Ads, Meta Business Suite, Loomly, and Constant Contact.
  • Photography and videography skills are an asset.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging for different audiences, platforms, and content formats.
  • Google Ads Certification is an asset.
  • Highly effective interpersonal skills and a strong team mindset with the ability to work independently as needed.

Inclusion Statement

Wellspring Alberta is committed to being an inclusive organization. We are in a process of expanding the diversity of identities and lived experiences, to be more reflective of the communities in which we work and live. To support this process, we’ve become an employer partner of the Canadian Centre for Diversity and Inclusion, developed an Advisory group, and we are taking action as part of our commitment to Diversity and Inclusion. We understand we’re on a journey, which will take time, and that increasing equity in our organization and in cancer care is critical.

We encourage applications from groups that are typically under-represented in cancer-serving organizations including BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour) individuals, 2SLGBTQ+ identifying individuals, persons with disabilities, and candidates from all equity seeing groups.

We welcome you to contact us for a conversation about accessibility and accommodations throughout the recruitment process.

We know that women and people of colour are less likely to apply for roles unless they meet every single requirement. If you’re excited about the role, but your qualifications don’t match perfectly, we encourage you to apply.

We appreciate your interest in Wellspring and warmly welcome all applications.
