Wellspring Alberta is a charitable organization that supports, informs, and empowers those diagnosed with cancer by helping them address the fear, isolation, disruption and practical problems cancer can bring to their lives.  An affiliate of the Wellspring Cancer Support Foundation, Wellspring Alberta provides a comprehensive range of programs, support, resources, so anyone living with cancer and the people who care about them can improve the quality of their lives. All programs and services are informed by evidence and offered free of charge and without referral in three centres and online. Our vision is that no one has to face cancer alone.

Wellspring Alberta’s work is made possible through the generous donations of individuals, corporations, foundations and grassroots fundraisers, and with the efforts of committed volunteers, dedicated staff and skilled contracted program leaders.

 

Purpose of Position:

Reporting to the member experience director, the data impact manager is a strategic and technical role responsible for measuring and communicating the impact of Wellspring Alberta’s programs and services. This role combines data management, program evaluation, and storytelling to drive continuous improvement and demonstrate the organization’s value to funders, stakeholders and the public. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable analyzing data, developing frameworks, and crafting compelling impact narratives. This is a full-time position based in either Calgary or Edmonton. Occasional travel across Alberta and evening or weekend work may be required.

 

Responsibilities:

Data Management

  • Oversee the collection, storage, and management of program, member and impact data and evaluations in systems such as Salesforce or similar platforms.
  • Ensure data quality, accuracy, and security aligning with organizational policies and industry standards.
  • Analyze program and member data to uncover trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement.
  • Develop and document processes that enhance the efficiency and consistency of data collection, storage, ease of staff access and reporting.

Salesforce Administration

  • Serve as the primary Salesforce administrator, overseeing system configuration, customization, maintenance, and user management.
  • Provide technical support, troubleshooting, and training to staff to enhance their use of Salesforce for data management and reporting.
  • Collaborate with IT, external consultants, and the broader Wellspring network to address system updates, integrations, and improvements.

Data and Reporting

  • Prepare quarterly and annual data reports, including visualizations or infographics, to communicate organizational or program impact for use internally and externally (e.g. presentations, website).
  • Maintain a centralized knowledge repository (e.g. the Data Handbook) and associated resources, ensuring annual updates to reflect current best practices and findings.
  • Create tailored reports, visualizations, infographics, and success stories, aimed at funders, donors, and external stakeholders.
  • Design and maintain dashboards or other tools to deliver accessible data insights.
  • Support the program evaluation process, including the collection and analysis of program evaluation findings, to enhance member experiences, program development, and long-term outcomes.

Support for Resource Development and Awareness

  • Provide program data and impact metrics to support grant applications, funding proposals, grant and donor stewardship reporting, and advocacy efforts.
  • Partner with resource development team to demonstrate the organization’s value and success to donors and grant makers.
  • Work with the communications team to transform data into compelling narratives for public relations, marketing and community engagement.

Capacity Building

  • Lead ongoing education and training to increase understanding ensuring consistency in data usage across the organization.
  • Collaborate with teams across the organization to foster our culture of evidence-informed decision-making.
  • Stay current with trends and best practices in data analysis, impact measurement, and evaluation, sharing relevant learnings with the team.

 

Required knowledge, skills and abilities: 

  • Post-secondary degree in a related field (e.g. social sciences, data analytics, program evaluation, public health).
  • 5 – 7 years of experience leading data analysis, program evaluation, or impact measurement, preferably with experience in the non-profit sector.
  • Ability to analyze, interpret, and organize large amounts of data.
  • Proficiency in data systems and visualization (Salesforce, Power BI, Tableau, or equivalent).
  • Experience in designing and conducting evaluations, including surveys and qualitative/quantitative data collection.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate complex data into clear, compelling narratives.
  • Understanding of principles of information governance and ethics.
  • Demonstrate a problem-solving approach to challenges.
  • Advanced analytical thinking and problem-solving.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to data accuracy.
  • Excellent time management and ability to prioritize multiple priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills, with experience working across teams and with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proactive mindset with the ability to translate data insights into strategic actions.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience working in a non-profit or mission-driven environment, with an understanding of nonprofit values, collaboration, fundraising, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Understanding of the challenges faced by individuals living with cancer or experience in a health-related non-profit.
  • Experience with logic models or impact frameworks.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate programs for outcomes and quality improvement.
  • Experience with software like Office 365, Survey Monkey, Zoom, Canva.
